Birthday Book Club

Your child can have a special birthday celebration at school by joining the Birthday Book Club. This is a wonderful way to honor your child and watch our media center grow as your child grows.

For a $10 donation (cash or check made payable to Howard Drive PTA), the participant will choose a book from a selection of new books in the media center. The book will have a bookplate with your child’s name and birthday. This book will be presented to your child on morning announcements and the birthday child can take it home to read and enjoy with his/her family. After the book is returned, all of our children will have the opportunity to enjoy reading the book. If your child’s birthday falls in the summer, he/she can celebrate a half-year birthday.

All children, whether they participate in the Birthday Book Club or not, will be recognized on morning announcements on their birthday. However, if you wish to have your child participate, please come to the media center at least one week prior to your child’s birthday to select a book. This program begins at the start of the school year and ends in mid-May.

Summer Reading

Again this year, summer reading is a requirement for our students.  It is recommended that students continue to read 30 minutes a day, however, they will be required to read two books and complete two book reports. You can access the book report forms via the links below. Be sure to use the AR Bookfinder for reading level appropriate AR books. Completed book reports will need to be returned at the beginning of the next school year. This assignment will be reflected as a grade in the student's reading effort.  The PTA will provide a reward for our students for fulfilling this requirement.
